The larger screen, higher refresh rate, and much better outdoor brightness alone make a significant difference for daily usage. For me, the superior performance and vastly improved camera quality make the higher price of the Pixel 9 Pro XL worthwhile and it's worth it to have all the modern features as opposed to the older hardware of the Realme 8.
