Key Questions for Buyers:

  1. What is your budget? The price difference between these phones is substantial.

  3. What will be the primary use of the phone? Basic tasks or demanding tasks and high-quality media?

Scenario-Based Recommendations:

  • Scenario 1: Budget is the primary concern: Choose the Realme 8. It offers good value for its price with a decent display, decent camera and a compact form factor.
  • Scenario 2: Performance and Camera Quality are paramount: Choose the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. Its superior chipset, camera and display offer a much better experience overall, but at a premium price.
  • Scenario 3: Balanced use and portability: While the Realme 8 will be lighter and more portable, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is still manageable and offers much more in terms of performance.

My Choice

If I had to choose, I would pick the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. While the Realme 8 is a good budget phone, the Pixel 9 Pro XL offers a significantly better user experience due to its superior performance, display, camera, software, and connectivity features. The larger screen, higher refresh rate, and much better outdoor brightness alone make a significant difference for daily usage. For me, the superior performance and vastly improved camera quality make the higher price of the Pixel 9 Pro XL worthwhile and it's worth it to have all the modern features as opposed to the older hardware of the Realme 8.
