4. Decision Framework

Key Questions for Buyers:

  1. Do you prioritize display quality and outdoor visibility, or battery life and performance? (Realme 8 excels in display; Cubot KingKong X excels in battery/performance.)
  2. Do you prioritize a lighter, more compact phone or a device with a large battery and display? (Realme 8 is more portable; Cubot KingKong X is much bigger and bulkier.)
  3. Do you need a very large internal storage and the latest software? (Cubot KingKong X has much more storage and is using android 14.)

Scenario-Based Recommendations:

  • Scenario 1: You primarily use your phone for social media, web browsing, and watching videos indoors. You want a good-looking screen and a lightweight phone. Recommendation: Realme 8.
  • Scenario 2: You are a gamer, need a phone that lasts all day (or multiple days), and require a lot of storage. You don't mind a heavier phone. Recommendation: Cubot KingKong X.
  • Scenario 3: You need a phone for travel and outdoor adventures. You need a device with a large battery, and a good camera that performs well in all conditions. Recommendation: Cubot KingKong X.
  • Scenario 4: You want the latest android, and good performance at a better price point. Recommendation: Cubot KingKong X.

My Choice

If I had to choose between these two phones, I would pick the Cubot KingKong X. While the Realme 8 has a better screen and is more portable, the Cubot's advantages are more in line with my priorities:

  • Battery Life: The massive battery is a game-changer, particularly when I don't want to worry about constantly charging.
  • Performance: The performance boost from the Dimensity 7050 chip makes a noticeable difference in day-to-day usage, especially with many apps open in the background.
  • Storage: I prefer to have the maximum internal storage possible, because i am a heavy user of my phone's camera, and i like to keep many files on my phone.
  • Latest Android: Android 14 offers the latest features and security updates.
  • 120hz Refresh Rate: The 120hz refresh rate offers a smooth user experience.

Although the Realme 8's display is superior, the benefits of better battery life and performance, for me, outweigh the downsides of its screen. The additional weight of the Cubot KingKong X is something I could tolerate for the performance and battery benefits.
