Design

The vivo V40 measures 164.2 mm in height, 75 mm in width, and has a slim profile of 7.6 mm, with a weight of 190 grams. It is not a foldable phone. The phone's aesthetics are available in several color options: Moonlight White, Stellar Silver (Titanium Grey), Nebula Purple (Lotus Purple), Ganges Blue, and Sunglow Peach.

Display

The device features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1260 x 2800 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 453 ppi. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support, with a peak brightness of 4500 nits. The display also features a 2160 Hz PWM, a touch sampling rate of 300Hz, and includes TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort Certification. The screen is protected by 2.5D curved glass, using capacitive multi-touch technology in a frameless design. It uses a 10-bit panel supporting the DCI-P3 color gamut and has a contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1. The display incorporates a hole-punch notch for the selfie camera.

Performance

The vivo V40 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 (SM7550-AB) chipset, built on a 4nm process. The octa-core CPU configuration consists of a 1x2.63 GHz Cortex-A715 core, 3x2.4 GHz Cortex-A715 cores, and 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A510 cores. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 720 GPU. The phone features 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It does not have an SD card slot for storage expansion. In terms of benchmark scores, the device has achieved an Antutu score of approximately 855000 (v10). A cooling system is included in the phone's design to manage performance during intensive tasks.

Camera

The phone has a triple-camera setup. The camera system includes features such as optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS), quad-LED flash, autofocus, touch focus, continuous shooting, geotagging, panorama, HDR, face detection, and various shooting modes. It can record videos in 4K at 30fps with OIS and EIS, and 1080p at 30fps with OIS and EIS as well. Slow-motion video recording is available at 120 fps.

Battery Life

The vivo V40 is equipped with a 5500mAh non-removable lithium battery. It supports 80W fast charging but does not support wireless charging.

The phone operates on Android 14.

The vivo V40 offers a capable mid-range smartphone experience, highlighted by its vibrant 120Hz AMOLED display with high peak brightness, a robust Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, and versatile 50MP camera system with OIS on both the main and video. The 5500mAh battery combined with 80W fast charging offers solid performance. The device includes Dual SIM Dual Standby (Nano SIM + Nano SIM / eSIM) capabilities, and is equipped with a fingerprint sensor under the display. Its design includes a cooling system, addressing performance management. The phone’s absence of an SD card slot might be a consideration for some users, but 512GB of storage is a generous baseline.
