Design

The OnePlus 12R, released on February 6, 2024, features a glass front (protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2), a glass back, and an aluminum frame. It measures 163.3 mm in height, 75.3 mm in width, and 8.8 mm in depth, weighing 207 grams. The phone is available in Cool Blue, Iron Gray, Electric Violet, and Sunset Dune color options. It is not a foldable device and has a standard bar form factor. The design incorporates a dual-edge display and a hole-punch notch for the front-facing camera.

Display

The 12R boasts a 6.78-inch LTPO4 AMOLED display with 1 billion colors, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision support. The screen offers a resolution of 1264 x 2780 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 450 ppi, and a 20:9 aspect ratio. It can reach a peak brightness of 4500 nits and a high brightness mode of 1600 nits. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and includes a variety of features such as a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 360Hz touch sampling rate, TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort Certification, DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and DisplayMate A+ certification. The LTPO 4.0 technology allows for dynamic refresh rate adjustments.

Performance

The device is powered by the Qualcomm SM8550-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (4 nm) chipset. Its octa-core CPU is configured with 1x3.2 GHz Cortex-X3, 2x2.8 GHz Cortex-A715, 2x2.8 GHz Cortex-A710, and 3x2.0 GHz Cortex-A510 cores. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 740 GPU. The tested Antutu benchmark score is 1,743,901 (v10). The phone includes a cooling system to mitigate thermal throttling during intensive tasks. It's available in configurations of 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 16GB/256GB LPDDR5X RAM. Storage uses the UFS 3.1 standard with no option for expandable memory via an SD card slot.

Camera

The rear camera system includes a 50MP primary lens (Sony IMX890, 1/1.56" sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.00µm pixels with 1-4 binning), an 8MP ultrawide lens (Sony IMX355, 1/2.8" sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 1.14µm pixels), and a 2MP macro lens (Omnivision OV02B10, 1/5" sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1.75µm pixels). The main camera supports both optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS). Video recording capabilities include 4K at 30fps and 60fps, and 1080p at 30, 60, 120, and 240fps, all with OIS and EIS. The front-facing camera is a 16MP unit (Samsung S5K3P9, 1/3.1" sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1.00µm pixels with 1-4 binning). Other camera features include dual-LED flash, autofocus, touch focus, continuous autofocus, manual focus, PDAF, RAW capture, night mode, and panorama.

Battery Life

The OnePlus 12R is powered by a 5500 mAh lithium battery with support for 100W fast wired charging via USB Type-C. It also features reverse charging capabilities, but lacks wireless charging. The battery is non-removable.

Software

The device launches with Android 14, with a guaranteed upgrade to Android 17.

Connectivity

The phone has Dual SIM Dual Standby capability (Nano SIM + Nano SIM). It supports 5G, 4G LTE, 3G, and 2G networks, with an extensive range of band support. GPS features include A-GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, QZSS, Galileo, GPS (L1+L5), GLONASS (L1), BeiDou (B1), Galileo (E1+E5a), BeiDou (B2), and QZSS (L1 + L5). NFC is available, alongside USB Type-C 2.0 with USB OTG, USB mass storage, and USB charging support. The phone has a suite of sensors such as fingerprint (under-display), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and color spectrum sensors. Stereo speakers are also included.

The 16GB/256GB variant is priced in the medium range, with costs varying between $429.99 and $646.60 depending on the retailer.
