4. Decision Framework

Key Questions for Buyers:

  1. How important is processing power and performance for you? If top-tier speed is crucial, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is preferable. If it isn't as important, the Oppo Find X3 Pro could still be a solid choice.
  2. Do you need a telephoto lens with optical zoom? If zoom is a requirement, the Oppo Find X3 Pro is the better option since it is the only phone that has a dedicated telephoto lens.
  3. How much do you value fast charging speeds and a bright display? If fast charging and outdoor visibility are important, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is the better choice.

Scenario-Based Recommendations:

  • Scenario 1: You are a mobile gamer or use many intensive applications that require top performance. Recommendation: Xiaomi 12 Pro for its better processor and GPU.
  • Scenario 2: You prioritize capturing high-quality zoomed photos and need optical zoom. Recommendation: Oppo Find X3 Pro for its dedicated telephoto lens.
  • Scenario 3: You need fast charging and a phone that can be easily seen outdoors and prioritize high quality audio. Recommendation: Xiaomi 12 Pro for its superior charging speeds, higher display brightness, and high-resolution audio.
  • Scenario 4: You need the best overall camera and are not as concerned about having telephoto zoom capabilities. Recommendation: Xiaomi 12 Pro for its slightly better image quality, 8k recording, and extra portrait mode camera.
  • Scenario 5: You want the phone that has the best screen protection and future proofing. Recommendation: Xiaomi 12 Pro due to its newer Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

My Choice

I would choose the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro offers a more compelling package overall. The faster processor, superior charging speeds, brighter display, and enhanced audio features provide a more significant improvement to day-to-day usage than a telephoto zoom lens or the extra RAM on the Oppo. While the telephoto lens on the Oppo is a nice feature, the overall benefits of the Xiaomi 12 Pro's performance and features are more impactful. The slight edge in camera quality and screen protection further solidify it as the preferred choice for my usage. Given that most of the time I am not zooming in very far, the lack of a telephoto lens is something I am happy to sacrifice for the improvements in the other areas.
