Key Questions for Buyers:

Scenario-Based Recommendations:

  • For an "all-rounder" that's great for media: Choose the OnePlus 9 Pro for its larger, sharper, and brighter display, faster charging, and versatile camera system, if you do not need an updated OS, better chip, or the more advanced sensor array.
  • For a power user or mobile gamer: Choose the Sony Xperia 5 V for its newer chipset, better performance, and longer battery life in a more compact design.
  • For an advanced user who wants the latest tech: Choose the Sony Xperia 5 V for the better fingerprint sensor, better screen protection, newer Bluetooth version, and eSIM support.

My Choice

I would choose the Sony Xperia 5 V. While the OnePlus 9 Pro has some very strong features like the display and the faster charging speeds, the Xperia 5 V offers a more modern overall package. The improved performance from the newer chipset, combined with a better battery life, and a more updated version of android makes it a better choice for the long-term. I also value the more compact design and the fact that it has a side mounted fingerprint sensor. Although the OnePlus has a slightly better camera array and audio specs, the Xperia 5 V is a more well-rounded device in my opinion.
