Trade-offs:

  • OnePlus 9 Pro: More expensive, heavier, less battery capacity, basic fingerprint sensor.
  • Infinix Note 12 G96: Significantly lower performance, lower-resolution display, no telephoto or wide angle lens, slower charging, lacks premium features and is generally a budget phone compared to the OnePlus

3. User Profiles & Recommendations

OnePlus 9 Pro is Ideal For:

  • Power Users: Gamers, multitaskers, and anyone needing a fast, responsive phone.
  • Media Enthusiasts: Users who value high-quality display, cameras, and audio, great for content creation or consumption
  • Travelers: Benefit from the excellent camera system, and location accuracy.
  • Professional photographers and video editors who value more control over the picture taking process and the high video quality of the phone.

Infinix Note 12 G96 is Ideal For:

  • Budget-Conscious Users: Those seeking a good display and battery at a lower price.
  • Casual Users: Those who need a phone for basic tasks like social media, browsing, and streaming.
  • Users who prefer a larger battery and a lightweight phone.
  • Users who prefer AMOLED screens over other types.

4. Decision Framework

Key Questions to Consider:

  1. What is your budget? OnePlus 9 Pro is premium, while Infinix is budget-friendly.
  2. How important is performance? Do you need a phone for demanding tasks, or just casual use?
  3. How important is the camera? Do you need the best possible quality with optical zoom and video recording capabilities?
  4. How important is charging speed? Do you need to be able to charge your phone as quickly as possible?

Scenario-Based Recommendations:

  • Scenario 1: You want the best performance, display quality, and camera; budget is not a primary concern. Recommendation: OnePlus 9 Pro.
  • Scenario 2: You need a good phone for daily tasks and streaming with long battery, and want to save money. Recommendation: Infinix Note 12 G96
  • Scenario 3: You want good performance and a better camera; you're willing to compromise on battery life. Recommendation: OnePlus 9 Pro is still the clear choice in this case due to its superior camera.

My Choice

If I were to choose between these two phones, I would choose the OnePlus 9 Pro. Although it's older, it offers a far superior experience in terms of performance, display quality, and camera capabilities. The significantly higher processing power ensures smooth multitasking and handling of demanding games, while the higher resolution and refresh rate display provide a much more enjoyable viewing experience. The camera system is also vastly superior for both photography and video recording, with a significantly higher DXOMark score, additional lenses and more features. While the Infinix Note 12 G96 offers a larger battery and AMOLED display, these are not enough to compensate for its overall lack of performance. For me, the enhanced camera experience, faster charging, superior display quality, and better performance of the OnePlus 9 Pro are worth the extra cost. I would prefer to spend more for a much better and longer-lasting user experience. I also highly value fast charging, which is a significant advantage for the OnePlus 9 Pro. Although the Infinix may be ideal for budget-conscious users, the OnePlus 9 Pro offers a premium experience that the Infinix cannot match.
