If I were to choose between the two, I would pick the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max. While the Samsung Galaxy A15 offers better battery life, and a smoother refresh rate, the gulf in overall performance, screen quality, and especially camera performance is just too large. I'm willing to trade battery life and a fingerprint scanner, for a top-tier performance experience. I find the added versatility of the much more advanced camera system more valuable as I tend to use the camera quite often. The much higher screen brightness and better visibility in bright sunlight is also crucial as I am often using my phone outside.
Although the Samsung Galaxy A15 does offer good value for its budget, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max provides a much more premium and capable experience in all aspects, making it worth the extra investment, in my opinion.
