My Choice
If I had to choose between these two phones, I would go with the Asus Zenfone 9.
Here's why:
Practicality & Portability: I prefer a compact phone that's easy to use one-handed, and the Zenfone 9 excels in this aspect. The significantly lighter weight makes it more comfortable for daily use, while the superior build quality with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus gives me peace of mind.
Performance & Battery Life: As a moderate gamer and frequent phone user, the newer Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset provides a smooth and responsive experience. It provides better battery life which would be beneficial when I travel.
Modern Features: The 120Hz refresh rate is a big plus for overall visual experience. The addition of a fingerprint sensor is also beneficial for ease of unlocking. The higher quality audio through Bluetooth is also something that is of high importance to me. The 8k and gimbal capabilities on the camera are also a nice bonus for me.
Although the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a larger screen which is good for media consumption, the benefits of a smaller, more portable, better performing device with higher quality audio outweigh the benefits of a slightly larger screen.
I do not find the Apple ecosystem integration important, nor would I benefit from the wireless charging capabilities or eSIM. For these reasons, I choose the Asus Zenfone 9.
